methodology/workshop steps
In a classroom setting, teams of scientists and designers took a specific information problem and then worked together to create designs for posters that depict/highlight the essential findings of complex research.
Concept sketches produced by team members were presented and evaluated by cross-disciplinary teams.
VA/VCD Teaching Assistants develop selected sketches that both designer and researcher have agreed best illustrate the research problem and process. Further dialogue in Writing Center tutorials then revised the text of the final poster.
Each team offered a brief presentation (8-10 min) to all participants. Team designed presentations were evaluated on the basis of their ability to establish a coherent narrative style through: quality of empirical images, numerical information, and captions.
