Bi-level Modularity in Microfactories
is a mechatronics project by researchers Emrah Deniz Kunt and Asif Sabanovic. The researchers were seeking to develop an assembly module for their modular microfactory concept. At the time, they were working on the layout of the module, and had already developed a 3D model. Their main goal was to create modules to be cascaded in order to form custom layouts suited for specific products, given that the layout can be modified in order to configure the microfactory for the production of another product. Althought the project was limited to the assembly module, researchers thought it would be beneficial to address the whole microfactory concept in their presentation.
